Motorcyclist Killed in Highway 30 Collision Near Twin Falls; Pickup Driver Taken Into Custody
Fatal Crash on US-30 Between Twin Falls and Filer Under Investigation
A Twin Falls man is dead following a collision between a motorcycle and a pickup truck on Highway 30 in Magic Valley Friday afternoon, and the driver of the pickup has been taken into custody in connection with the crash.
Idaho State Police responded to the accident at approximately 5:25 p.m. on May 15 near mile marker 214 on US-30, a stretch of highway running between Twin Falls and Filer.
According to the Idaho State Police report, a 39-year-old Twin Falls man was operating a 2013 Harley-Davidson motorcycle in a westbound direction on US-30. At the same time, a 49-year-old Twin Falls man was driving a 2017 Nissan Frontier southbound on E 2600 N and attempted to cross the highway. The Harley-Davidson struck the side of the Nissan as it crossed the intersection.
The motorcycle rider was transported to a local hospital, where he later died from injuries sustained in the crash. The pickup driver was medically evaluated and cleared before law enforcement took him into custody for his role in the collision.
Intersection Layout May Be a Factor in the Investigation
The intersection where the crash occurred has open fields on both the north and south corners to the east. A residence sits on the southwest corner, and an auto repair shop occupies the northwest corner — the area where investigators believe the pickup truck was positioned before the driver attempted to cross US-30. Investigators are examining whether visibility or other conditions at the intersection contributed to the collision.
Idaho State Police say the investigation remains ongoing.
The crash is among several serious traffic incidents on Magic Valley roadways in recent weeks. A motorcyclist was also killed near Filer in a separate collision that resulted in the pickup driver being taken into custody, and a two-vehicle fatal crash near Filer drew additional scrutiny to roadway safety in the area. Motorists are urged to use caution at rural highway intersections, particularly where cross-traffic must cross higher-speed routes.
