Twin Falls Physician Assistant Urges Flu Shots as Cases Begin Appearing

A Twin Falls health care provider is encouraging residents to receive flu vaccinations as early positive cases emerge in the area.

Jonathan Pittard, co-owner and physician assistant at Physicians Immediate Care Center, said the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and local health departments recommend flu vaccination. This year’s vaccines are designed to protect against three influenza viruses.

Early positive flu cases have been reported in Twin Falls, but Pittard said they remain limited.

“I wouldn’t say it’s widespread by any means,” Pittard said.

Influenza is airborne, and older adults and young children face higher risks from severe illness. Idaho averaged about 60 reported flu-related deaths annually over the past five years, with most reported deaths involving people over age 50.

Idaho reported its first flu-related death of the year this month. The individual was a 65-year-old man from Owyhee County.

Flu typically begins circulating in November and December, although it can start later in January or February. People who develop more serious symptoms should contact a doctor or seek care at an urgent care facility or walk-in clinic.
