Scrubber to help remove sewer odor from Twin Falls air

Twin Falls to Install Odor Scrubber to Reduce Sewer Smell in Northwest Neighborhoods

TWIN FALLS — City crews are set to begin installing an odor-control scrubber this month aimed at reducing sewer-related smells that have drawn complaints from residents in the northwestern part of Twin Falls.

The new unit will be positioned near the south side of Federation Road and east of Grandview Drive North, where it will be enclosed by a 7.5-foot concrete fence and tied directly into the sewer line running beneath Grandview Drive, according to a city news release.

A Multi-Pronged Approach to a Persistent Problem

City officials have acknowledged there is no single cause behind the sewage odor that has periodically affected Twin Falls neighborhoods. The scrubber installation is part of a broader effort to address the issue from multiple angles, with officials expressing confidence that the combined strategy can meaningfully improve air quality for affected residents.

Sewer odor complaints are not uncommon in growing municipalities where aging or heavily used infrastructure can release gases at certain points in the system. The scrubber technology works by filtering those gases before they escape into the surrounding air.

The northwest area of Twin Falls has seen steady residential growth in recent years, making infrastructure upgrades like this one increasingly important to maintaining quality of life for area families. City leaders have not yet indicated a projected completion date for the installation.

For Twin Falls residents dealing with other public safety concerns in the area, local fire crews have also remained active responding to residential emergencies across the city.

What Comes Next

The city has not announced a formal timeline for assessing the scrubber’s effectiveness once it is operational. Residents in the affected northwest neighborhoods are expected to be among the first to notice any improvement. Officials have indicated the multi-step approach to odor mitigation will continue beyond this single installation.
