Pueblo Police Department officials confirmed the death of Corporal Stephen Biggs after his body was recovered from a Colorado waterway early Monday morning.
Biggs, an off-duty officer, vanished while wakeboarding at Peck Creek in Pueblo County. Authorities received a missing person report regarding the incident at approximately 5:30 p.m. on Sunday. Search teams located Biggs near 2 a.m. the following day.
Divers used a remotely operated vehicle to retrieve his body from 48 feet of water. The recovery operation concluded roughly 45 minutes after his location was identified.
Pueblo Police Chief Chris Noeller addressed the department’s loss, stating that working with Biggs was an honor and describing the tragedy as deeply personal.
Biggs joined the Pueblo Police Department in 2010. During his tenure, he served as a patrol training officer and was a member of the SWAT team. His service record included three Medal of Valor awards, a Distinguished Service award, and 10 letters of commendation.
In a gesture of respect, the department plans to park Biggs’s patrol car at headquarters.
