Flags lined the grounds of Founders Park in Jerome on Thursday, Sept. 10, marking the 25th anniversary of the September 11 attacks. The display honored the 343 New York City firefighters who died that day and first responders who have since passed away from illnesses related to the events.
Organizers set up approximately 500 flags at Founders Park. An additional 900 flags were displayed at Crossroads Point. The visual tribute coincided with America 250 celebrations across the nation.
Memorial Service in Twin Falls
The Annual Magic Valley 9/11 Memorial took place on Friday, Sept. 11, at the Visitor Center in Twin Falls. The event featured a combination of musical performance and military honors to remember those lost.
The Gibson Sisters performed during the ceremony. Air St. Luke’s made a landing at the venue, and a Blackhawk helicopter flew over the gathering. Members of the Twin Falls Honor Guard posted the colors. Shawn Applewhite of the Honor Guard stood at ease during the proceedings.
The Honor Bell was displayed and tolled as part of the remembrance. The community used the occasion to reflect on the impact of the attacks two decades and a half later.
