Authorities in Jerome County are investigating the discovery of a deceased individual near the Hansen Bridge on Highway 50. As first reported by kmvt.com, the incident prompted a temporary closure of the bridge and surrounding roadway earlier this week.
Jereome County Coroner Dan Chatterton confirmed that one person was found dead just north of the bridge structure. The Jerome County Sheriff’s Office is leading the investigation into the circumstances surrounding the death. Officials stated that the family of the deceased has been notified, but no further details regarding the cause or manner of death were immediately released.
The discovery led to significant traffic disruptions on Monday evening, September 7. Law enforcement activity forced the closure of Hansen Bridge in both directions. Additionally, Idaho State Highway 50 was shut down from Interstate 84 eastward to North 3800 East. The closures were implemented to secure the scene and allow investigators to process the area.
Hansen Bridge has since reopened to traffic. This incident adds to a series of public safety responses in the region, following recent events such as the hoax threat at Canyon Ridge High School and emergency responses to wildfires and house fires in Twin Falls County.
