Idaho Gas Prices Fall to $4.52, Remain Above Last Year

Idaho’s average gasoline price fell to $4.52 per gallon, down 44 cents from a month ago but still $1.17 higher than a year earlier.

Boise had the state’s highest listed price at $4.59 per gallon. Coeur d’Alene’s average was $4.15.

Matthew Conde, public affairs director for AAA Idaho, attributed the decline partly to winter-blend fuel, which costs less to produce, and slightly lower fuel demand.

“Winter-blend fuel is cheaper to make, and that has helped prices fall, as has a slight dip in fuel demand,” Conde said.

Idaho ranked ninth nationally for the most expensive gasoline. Prices declined in 47 states during the week.

The national average dropped 12 cents to $4.16 per gallon. That figure was 23 cents below the previous month but $1.13 above the same period last year.

Crude oil was trading near $100 per barrel, compared with prices in the $60 range a year earlier. Geopolitical tensions also remained a factor.

Conde said elevated crude prices could limit additional declines in gasoline prices.

“But crude is extremely expensive, and until something changes on that front, there may only be so much wiggle room before prices level off again,” he said.
