A 12-year-old boy died Saturday evening after going underwater at Dierkes Lake Park near Shoshone Falls in Twin Falls and failing to resurface, authorities announced in a joint statement.
Emergency crews were dispatched to the park at approximately 7:00 p.m. after receiving a report about the child. The Twin Falls County Search and Rescue Dive Team entered the water and located the boy. He was transported by ambulance to St. Luke’s Magic Valley Regional Medical Center, where he later died from his injuries.
Multiple Agencies Respond
The response drew personnel from several agencies, including the Twin Falls Police Department, Twin Falls County Sheriff’s Office, Twin Falls Fire Department, Magic Valley Paramedics, and St. Luke’s Life Flight. The Twin Falls County Sheriff’s Office is leading the ongoing investigation into the incident.
Following the tragedy, both Shoshone Falls and Dierkes Lake Park were closed. Dierkes Lake has seen drowning incidents in the past, drawing attention to water safety at the popular Magic Valley recreation area.
