Boy drowns at Dierkes Lake

A 12-year-old boy died Saturday evening after drowning at Dierkes Lake Park in Twin Falls, according to Twin Falls Police.

First responders were called to the park around 7:00 p.m. after witnesses reported the boy went underwater and did not come back up. The Twin Falls County Search and Rescue Dive Team located the juvenile in the water. He was transported by ambulance to St. Luke’s Magic Valley Regional Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead.

Law enforcement closed Dierkes Lake Park and nearby Shoshone Falls for the remainder of the evening following the incident. The boy’s name has not been released pending notification of his family.

The Twin Falls County Sheriff’s Office is leading the investigation into the circumstances surrounding the drowning.

Authorities have not indicated when Dierkes Lake Park or Shoshone Falls will reopen to the public. The Sheriff’s Office investigation is ongoing.
