Fatal Collision on Remote Highway Stretch
Two commercial truck drivers died Thursday morning in a head-on collision on U.S. Highway 93 south of Rogerson, near the Idaho-Nevada border. The crash occurred at approximately 4:39 a.m.
A 2021 Freightliner traveling southbound crossed the center line into the northbound lane, striking a 2022 Freightliner headed north. The southbound driver, a 33-year-old from San Carlos, California, and the northbound driver, a 60-year-old from Sacramento, California, were both pronounced dead at the scene.
Idaho State Police are conducting the investigation. The Twin Falls County Sheriff’s Office, Twin Falls Fire Department, Twin Falls Paramedics, and the Idaho Transportation Department all responded to the incident.
Highway 93 Safety Concerns
The remote stretch of Highway 93 in southwestern Idaho carries substantial commercial traffic, particularly at early morning hours. The collision underscores ongoing safety challenges on rural highways in the region.
Last year, I-84 was fully reopened following a separate two-semi crash that highlighted the region’s susceptibility to commercial vehicle accidents. Additionally, highway infrastructure projects continue in the Twin Falls area, reflecting ongoing efforts to improve road safety and conditions.
The Idaho State Police continue their investigation into the cause of Thursday’s fatal crash. Additional details regarding the collision remain under review.
