Twin Falls track star Brooklyn Gambrel signs to the College of Idaho

Twin Falls High School Sprinter Brooklyn Gambrel Signs with College of Idaho Track Program

Magic Valley Athlete Commits to Caldwell School After Two-Year High School Career

TWIN FALLS, Idaho — Brooklyn Gambrel, a sprinter for the Twin Falls High School track and field team, signed her letter of intent Monday to join the College of Idaho’s track and field program in Caldwell. The signing ceremony took place at Twin Falls High School on May 4, 2026, surrounded by family, friends, and teammates.

Gambrel’s path to a college athletic commitment is a story of perseverance. She did not participate in track and field as a freshman, instead pursuing other sports and activities at Twin Falls High School. She joined the Bruins’ program as a sophomore, giving her only two full seasons to make her mark — and ultimately earn a scholarship offer from a college program.

Her event list shifted during her high school career. Early on, she competed in five events, including the 100-meter dash, the 4×100-meter relay, the 800-meter medley relay, the long jump, and the high jump. She earned a bronze medal in the high jump at the district meet in 2024. Prior to her junior season, Gambrel dealt with a torn ACL — an injury she believes originated during the long jump — with a subsequent blow coming during basketball practice.

The injury cost her a full season of track and field competition. She returned to the Bruins in the 2026 season, and her event lineup evolved. The long jump gave way to the javelin, a relatively new event for her, while her focus sharpened on the sprinting races that drew the College of Idaho’s attention. She set the Twin Falls High School girls’ javelin record at 93 feet and 6 inches, having only begun formal competition in the event on April 17 at the Bruins’ home meet.

Education and Community Drive College Choice

Gambrel cited several factors in choosing the College of Idaho, a private liberal arts school located just over two hours from Twin Falls. The quality of education the school offers was a major draw, as was the sense of connection she felt with the coaching staff and teammates after meeting with them.

“I feel like it is going to be a great environment,” Gambrel said of the school in Caldwell, according to reporting by the Times-News. “It’s going to keep me headstrong toward my schoolwork, and it was very safe.”

A scholarship as part of the track and field program added to the appeal. After meeting with coaches and team members, Gambrel said the fit felt immediate.

“It was just somewhere that I think I could be for the next four years,” Gambrel said.

While she expressed excitement about the next chapter, she was candid about what she will leave behind in the Magic Valley. Addressing the crowd gathered in the Twin Falls High School foyer during her signing ceremony, she thanked family, friends, and teammates for their support throughout her athletic career.

“I think I am going to miss my family the most; they’ve always been there for me,” Gambrel said. “My friends as well, and my dogs.”

The College of Idaho recruited Gambrel specifically for the 100-meter dash and the 4×100-meter relay. She is keeping the door open on the javelin as well, a discipline in which she has shown rapid development since first competing in it this spring. Her focus at the collegiate level will center on the sprint events.

“I was a little bit nervous,” Gambrel said of signing her letter of intent. “But we got it done, and we signed the paper. Now, we’re committed to the Yotes.”

What Comes Next

Gambrel will finish her high school track and field career in the coming weeks, competing at the district track meet and the 5A state meet before transitioning to the College of Idaho program. Her signing adds to a tradition of Twin Falls High School student-athletes continuing their careers at the collegiate level.
