Twin Falls to Begin North-Central Street Resurfacing Project Late July

Drivers and residents in north-central Twin Falls should prepare for temporary lane closures, parking restrictions, and loose gravel on local streets starting the week of July 27, as the City of Twin Falls kicks off its annual street resurfacing project.

The work will be carried out by Boswell Asphalt Paving Solutions Inc. and will focus on Zone 6, the north-central portion of the city. The full project is expected to take between 45 and 60 days to complete, though individual streets are typically resurfaced within a 48-hour window once crews arrive on site.

How Chip Sealing Works

The primary method used in this year’s project is chip sealing, a proven and cost-effective road preservation technique. The process involves applying a layer of asphalt emulsion to the existing road surface, followed by a layer of small aggregate rock pressed into the emulsion. The result extends the life of the pavement and improves surface friction at a fraction of the cost of full road replacement.

Residents should be aware that loose gravel is a normal byproduct of the chip seal process and will be present on treated streets immediately after application. Dust is also expected during the initial sweeping phases, when crews clear excess aggregate from the roadway. Drivers are encouraged to reduce speed in active work zones, as loose gravel can pose a hazard to vehicles and cyclists.

What Residents Should Expect

Temporary lane closures and traffic delays are anticipated throughout the project as crews move from street to street within Zone 6. Temporary parking restrictions will also be enforced on affected streets during active resurfacing. The city is asking residents to watch for posted signage and plan alternate routes when necessary.

All work is weather dependent, meaning delays are possible if conditions are unfavorable during the scheduled start window. The city noted it will provide updates through its official website and social media channels as the project progresses.

Street resurfacing projects like this one represent a routine but important investment in Twin Falls’ road infrastructure. Maintaining pavement quality helps protect underlying road beds from water intrusion and the kind of long-term damage that leads to far more expensive repairs down the road. Chip sealing, in particular, is a fiscally responsible approach that stretches limited public works budgets while extending the functional lifespan of existing streets.

What Comes Next

Resurfacing is scheduled to begin the week of July 27, contingent on weather. Residents in Zone 6, the north-central area of Twin Falls, should anticipate activity in their neighborhoods over the following 45 to 60 days. For street-by-street updates and project status, the city will post information at TFID.org and through official city social media channels. Residents with questions are encouraged to check those resources before calling the city directly, as project schedules can shift rapidly based on crew progress and weather conditions.
