The Twin Falls Red Hawks kept their Legion A baseball momentum rolling Monday, July 6, sweeping the Kimberly Bulldogs in a doubleheader at Canyon Ridge High School and tightening their grip on postseason positioning ahead of the district tournament later this month.
The Red Hawks, a combined roster drawing varsity players from Canyon Ridge and Filer high schools, rallied from behind to take game one by a score of 5–3. Pitching was the story throughout, as Twin Falls starters and relievers kept Kimberly hitters largely in check across both contests.
Pitching Staff Leads the Way
Luke Walton took the mound first in game one, working four innings and striking out eight Kimberly batters. He allowed three runs on two hits and three walks before giving way to Bo Stringer, his Canyon Ridge teammate, who finished things off with three shutout innings — save for one run — while adding six more strikeouts. That brought Twin Falls’ total strikeout count in game one alone to 14.
Bryce Robbins was Kimberly’s lone bright spot offensively, accounting for the Bulldogs’ only multi-RBI production in the opener.
In game two, a Filer pitcher went the distance over six innings, holding Kimberly to four hits and three walks while punching out six. It was a dominant performance that reflected what has become a consistent pattern for this Red Hawks squad — deep, reliable pitching that limits damage even when things aren’t perfect.
That consistency extends beyond Monday’s doubleheader. On July 2, ace Brett Paxton delivered one of the more impressive lines of the summer, surrendering just one hit over 5.2 innings against the Post 4 Razorbacks out of Pocatello. Paxton has emerged as Twin Falls’ top arm, with Walton and Bridger Phillips providing capable depth behind him — a combination that gives the team real confidence heading into a tournament format where multiple outings in a short span are the norm.
While observers note that allowing eight combined runs across Monday’s doubleheader is slightly higher than the Red Hawks’ usual standard, the team’s ability to manage that damage and still win both games speaks to the character of the pitching staff. Twin Falls may well carry the best rotation among Legion A programs in the Magic Valley this summer.
Ward’s Big Swing Seals Game Two
If pitching carried game one, offense stepped up in game two — particularly from Cameron Ward. The outfielder delivered a two-out triple in the seventh inning that plated two runs, part of a three-hit, three-RBI evening that showcased his ability to come through in high-leverage moments. Ward finished game two with two hits and drove home three runs in that contest alone.
Bridger Phillips also contributed offensively in game two, collecting two hits and driving in multiple runs to give Twin Falls a balanced attack alongside the strong pitching effort from the Filer starter.
What Comes Next
The Red Hawks return to action Wednesday when they host the Green Sox in a matchup that could serve as a preview of what’s to come in the Legion A district tournament. That tournament is scheduled to begin Wednesday, July 16, and Twin Falls will be gunning to unseat Burley as district champion.
With the pitching depth to navigate a demanding tournament bracket and hitters capable of delivering in clutch moments, the Red Hawks appear well-positioned for a deep run. For local baseball fans in Twin Falls, Filer, and across the Magic Valley, this team is giving plenty of reasons to pay attention as the postseason window approaches.
