Twin Falls County is standing by its decision to cancel a contract with Pillar Power Productions following damage to the boat launch facility at Centennial Waterfront Park, according to county officials involved in an August 5 dispute meeting over the incident.
The concrete ramp sustained a visible crack on Monday, August 17, 2026, prompting county commissioners to close the motorized-boat launch due to safety concerns. County officials determined that a barge operated by the hydropower company had bottomed out on the ramp, causing the structural damage.
Pillar Power Productions representatives disputed the county’s assessment at the meeting, disagreeing that their equipment was responsible for the crack. The company uses Centennial Waterfront Park as a loading point to transport heavy equipment via barge to its facility near Pillar Falls. Company officials contend the river route remains their only viable access for moving machinery to the site and have indicated plans for equipment upgrades.
The disagreement underscores a conflict between county infrastructure maintenance and the operational needs of the regional hydropower facility. While the county prioritizes public safety and asset protection, Pillar Power Productions maintains that its barge operations are essential to site operations and cannot be easily rerouted.
County officials have not announced a timeline for repairs to the ramp or conditions under which the motorized launch might reopen.
What Comes Next
The county and power company may pursue further negotiations regarding liability for repairs and future access to the park facility. Any resolution could affect both public recreation access and the company’s ability to transport equipment to its hydropower operations in the region.
