Twin Blades Axe Throwing League is preparing to launch its competitive season in Twin Falls starting July 19, marking the return of organized play after the facility’s five-year history under the World Axe Throwing League banner.
The eight-week season will run on two weekly schedules: Sundays at 4:30 p.m., beginning July 19, and Tuesdays at 7:30 p.m., starting July 21. Participants will compete in four games each night, with coaching available throughout the season to help throwers improve their technique.
Skill Levels Welcome
No prior experience is required to join. The league accommodates both beginners and experienced throwers in the same competitive environment, and first-time participants can throw free during the opening week with no obligation to continue.
Competitors will throw hatchets, large axes, and knives at targets. League administrator Vince Prater emphasized the appeal of watching participants grow throughout the season. “I really like seeing people improve and challenge themselves to get better at the sport,” Prater said.
An eight-week season costs $85 per adult participant. At the end of the eight weeks, a tournament determines the season’s top thrower.
Path to National Competition
Some Twin Blades members have competed at the national level, with the opportunity to advance toward the World Championships. The league runs four competitive seasons each year, providing multiple entry points for new and returning players.
Owner Matt Dorsey noted the accessibility of the sport for younger participants. “It’s a very easy sport for younger kids to get involved with as long as they’re strong enough to get it to the target,” Dorsey said.
Kids’ League Coming Soon
Twin Blades will launch its youth program in September. The kids’ league is expected to cost $50 for an eight-week season, expanding opportunities for families in Twin Falls County to participate in competitive axe throwing.
The facility’s return to full-season competition comes as Twin Falls continues to develop recreational and entertainment options for residents. The league’s four-season annual schedule means participants have multiple opportunities throughout the year to begin or return to play.
For more information about Twin Blades or to register for the adult league, interested throwers can visit the facility in Twin Falls. First-time participants are encouraged to take advantage of the free introductory week running through July 25.
The community has embraced local recreational opportunities throughout the summer, as evidenced by recent celebrations like the Buhl Sagebrush Days and Twin Falls County’s Fourth of July festivities.
