TF police: Suspect shot, killed Wednesday by law enforcement after stabbing

Twin Falls, Idaho Police Shoot and Kill Knife-Wielding Suspect Following Stabbing Incident on Washington Street North

Suspect Shot Near 600 Block of Washington Street North After Standoff

A knife-wielding suspect connected to an earlier stabbing was shot and killed by law enforcement Wednesday afternoon in Twin Falls, Idaho, following a prolonged effort by officers to peacefully resolve the situation, according to a statement released by the Twin Falls Police Department.

Officers initially responded to St. Luke’s Magic Valley Regional Medical Center at approximately 1 p.m., where they met with a stabbing victim. The suspect was subsequently located near the 600 block of Washington Street North, prompting law enforcement to establish a perimeter and close a portion of that street.

The Twin Falls Police Department, in coordination with the Twin Falls County Sheriff’s Office, deployed a joint SWAT team to apprehend the suspect. For more than one hour, officers and deputies attempted to communicate with the suspect through multiple methods in an effort to persuade him to surrender peacefully, the department’s statement said.

Despite those efforts, the suspect — armed with a knife — was ultimately shot by an officer. Medical personnel had been staged nearby and responded immediately. Life-saving measures were attempted, but the suspect was pronounced dead at the scene, according to the department.

Critical Incident Task Force, Cassia County Sheriff to Lead Investigation

Because the incident involved an officer-involved shooting, the Critical Incident Task Force was activated in accordance with standard protocol. The Cassia County Sheriff’s Office will conduct an independent investigation to determine whether the use of deadly force was justified, the department confirmed.

Officers involved in the shooting have been placed on paid administrative leave, consistent with standard procedure for officer-involved shooting incidents. No officers, deputies, or members of the public were injured during the course of the incident, according to the department’s statement.

Once the Critical Incident Task Force concludes its investigation, the case will also undergo an administrative review. The Twin Falls Police Department acknowledged in its statement that community members may have questions and asked for patience as the investigative process moves forward.

“We understand the community may have questions at this time, and we ask for patience as the investigation proceeds,” the department’s statement said. Additional information may be released once the investigation is complete and findings are available, officials said.

What the Incident Reflects About Officer Response Protocols

The sequence of events Wednesday — from officers first meeting with a stabbing victim at St. Luke’s Magic Valley to the eventual use of deadly force more than an hour later — underscores the length to which law enforcement attempted to resolve the confrontation without lethal means. The deployment of a SWAT team and the use of multiple communication methods reflect established de-escalation protocols before officers resorted to force.

Public safety incidents of this nature in Twin Falls County are subject to independent oversight by design. The involvement of the Cassia County Sheriff’s Office as the investigating agency provides an outside review of the circumstances surrounding the shooting, a standard practice intended to ensure transparency and accountability in officer-involved incidents.

What Comes Next

The Critical Incident Task Force investigation into Wednesday’s officer-involved shooting is ongoing. Once that process is complete, the incident will also be subject to an internal administrative review by the Twin Falls Police Department. Additional details, including the identity of the suspect and any further information about the original stabbing victim, may be released as the investigation allows.
