I-84 to Close Overnight at Heyburn Exit 211 for Bridge Construction
Travelers on Interstate 84 near Heyburn should plan for overnight lane and ramp disruptions beginning Monday evening, as construction crews continue work on a new bridge at Exit 211.
The Idaho Transportation Department announced that a full closure of I-84 at Exit 211 began at 6 p.m. Monday and is expected to remain in place until approximately 7 a.m. Tuesday. Motorists needing to navigate the area during the closure can use the on- and off-ramps at Exit 211 as a detour around the affected stretch.
Intermittent Ramp Closures to Continue Through May 15
Once the overnight closure lifts Tuesday morning, drivers should still expect periodic disruptions. The on- and off-ramps at Exit 211 in Heyburn will close intermittently throughout the week to allow contractors to complete repaving work on State Highway 24. Centennial Drive near the interchange will also see temporary closures during this phase of the project.
The alternating ramp closures are expected to last six to eight hours at a time while crews lay new pavement, and the work schedule runs through May 15.
For motorists looking to reach Heyburn while the Exit 211 ramps are closed, the Idaho Transportation Department advises using the I-84 interchange at Exit 208 in Burley. From there, drivers can connect to U.S. Highway 30 and State Highway 25 to access Heyburn. ITD is urging all travelers in the construction zone to watch for work crews, reduce speed, and follow posted signage.
Project Part of Larger Heyburn-Burley Interchange Upgrade
The current round of closures is part of a broader infrastructure project that has been underway since 2024. The effort is focused on modernizing the Heyburn and Burley interchanges to accommodate increasing traffic volumes along this segment of I-84 in the Magic Valley region. The project is expected to wrap up in 2026.
The I-84 corridor serves as a critical freight and commuter route connecting communities across southern Idaho, including Twin Falls County. Infrastructure upgrades along this stretch have been a priority as the region continues to see population and commercial growth.

What Comes Next
Ramp closures at Exit 211 are scheduled to continue on an intermittent basis through May 15 as paving operations wrap up. Travelers are encouraged to check the Idaho Transportation Department’s 511 traffic system for real-time updates before heading out. With the project slated for completion later this year, the current disruptions represent one of the final phases of the multi-year interchange improvement effort.
