Family-Focused Property Brings Water Slides, Indoor Pool to Magic Valley
TWIN FALLS — A new locally owned hotel featuring indoor water slides, a splash pad, and a hot tub is on track to open its doors in mid-June, offering Magic Valley families a destination experience without leaving Twin Falls County.
Splash Canyon Hotel, situated at the corner of Bridgeview Boulevard and Pole Line Road in Twin Falls, will open with 61 rooms designed with families in mind rather than business travelers. The property features two four-story water slides, a 16-person hot tub, an indoor rock-formation slide, a splash pad for younger children, and a large indoor pool. A light-show feature built into the water slides — described by the hotel as an “aqualescent” experience — adds an entertainment element as guests descend.
Owner David Kemp and general contractor Shawn Allen, who spent three decades pursuing the vision of a family-friendly waterpark hotel, have seen the project come to life with the backing of multiple local investors. Kimberly Allen, Shawn’s wife, wrote to the Times-News that bringing the water slides to completion required significant engineering and logistical work, including sourcing what she described as one of the largest dehumidifiers in Twin Falls — and among the largest in Idaho — to manage the indoor aquatic environment.
“We expect it to be a fun, adventurous and memorable environment,” Kimberly Allen said.
Community excitement is already building. A local resident posted on Facebook ahead of the opening, writing that the four-story slides had caught her attention and she could not wait to bring her children.
Locally Owned and Expanding
One of the more notable aspects of Splash Canyon is its ownership structure. Despite interest from established national hotel brands, the owners have opted to remain independent — at least for now.
“We take pride in being a locally owned hotel,” Kimberly Allen said. “We have eight local families who have partnered up to see this hotel come to fruition and have no intention of selling.”
The hotel has fielded purchase offers and branding proposals from well-known hotel chains, Allen noted, but those associated with the property have so far declined. She indicated the owners might consider a branding arrangement in the future if the right offer came along, but emphasized that selling is not a current priority.
The room mix is tailored to groups and families rather than solo business travelers. Several bunk rooms can accommodate up to 10 guests, while other options include king suites, standard double-queen rooms, and double-queen suites with sofa beds. The configuration reflects a deliberate focus on becoming a “staycation” destination for local residents as well as a draw for visitors passing through the region.
An additional 28 rooms are already in the pipeline, with completion expected within six to eight months of the initial opening. Some of those additional rooms will be configured as hot tub suites.
A feasibility study previously conducted for the city indicated that Twin Falls has unmet demand for additional hotel rooms, a gap Splash Canyon is positioned to help fill. The hotel’s promotional video highlighting the water slide features has already generated more than 100,000 views online, signaling strong regional interest ahead of the opening.
Splash Canyon opens amid a broader wave of commercial development in Twin Falls. New restaurants, hotels, and business expansions have been reshaping the Twin Falls commercial landscape in recent years, reflecting the city’s continued population and economic growth. Downtown has also seen activity, with new businesses preparing to join the downtown Twin Falls food hub as entrepreneurs look to capitalize on the city’s momentum.
