Kimberly High School seniors celebrate with 7th annual car parade

KIMBERLY, Idaho — Main Street transformed into a celebration route Sunday evening as more than 120 Kimberly High School seniors drove decorated cars, trucks, and tractors through town to mark the end of their high school years, just one day ahead of Thursday’s graduation ceremony.

The parade, now in its seventh year, has grown into one of the community’s most anticipated spring traditions. It traces its roots to 2020, when pandemic-era restrictions forced the school to cancel its traditional senior dinner. What began as a safe alternative has since taken on a life of its own, drawing residents to line the streets and cheer on graduating seniors each spring.

A Community Sends Off the Class of 2026

Kimberly High School Vice Principal TJ Sorensen described the event as something that brings the entire town together around a shared milestone. “You see big smiles and people cheering for you and celebrating with you,” Sorensen said. “The whole community can celebrate and be a part of the moment for graduation.”

Sorensen noted that the parade has become more than just a workaround — it now serves as a meaningful capstone to the school year. “It’s a big moment for people to reflect on what they accomplished and celebrate together as a class one last time,” he said.

Among the more memorable entries this year: a group of seniors chose to make their lap down Main Street aboard a tractor. Senior Andres Ortiz, part of that group, said the idea came naturally given his friend’s background in agriculture. “We thought it would just be a really grand display and just be a fun memory to have for the end of the year,” Ortiz said.

Seniors Reflect on Accomplishments Before Diplomas Are Handed Out

For many in the Class of 2026, the parade offered a chance to publicly mark what they’ve worked toward — college plans, career paths, and personal achievements displayed on decorated vehicles rolling past neighbors, family, and friends.

Senior Matioyn Guerrero said the event gives students an opportunity to showcase more than just school spirit. “It gives a chance for everybody to show off their great accomplishments… what college they’re going to… what they’re doing after high school,” Guerrero said.

The Kimberly Class of 2026 will formally receive their diplomas at Thursday evening’s graduation ceremony. The car parade tradition continues to serve as the emotional send-off before that official close — a grassroots celebration born from adversity that has become something the school and community look forward to each year.

Kimberly is one of several Magic Valley communities wrapping up the school year with senior celebrations. Elsewhere in the region, six Magic Valley high schools are preparing for state softball tournaments, and students like Filer’s Keegan Claiborn are taking their agricultural skills beyond Idaho as they head into the next chapter after graduation.
