CSI softball advances with walk-off win at NJCAA World Series

The College of Southern Idaho softball team punched through to the next round of the NJCAA Division I World Series on Monday, rallying past Dodge City 4-3 on a dramatic walk-off in Twin Falls County’s biggest athletic storyline of the week.

With the Golden Eagles trailing heading into the final frame, pitcher Ella Farrell retired three consecutive batters in the top of the seventh to keep CSI alive. The offense then went to work. Lexi Crowley drew a leadoff walk — her second of the game — and the inning built from there. After a fielder’s choice put Camryn Guest aboard, a throwing error moved runners up, with courtesy runner Ava Howell reaching third.

The winning run came on a grounder to second by Rilyne Keck. Howell sprinted home and beat the throw, capping the comeback.

Anslie Yazzie paced the offense, going 2-for-2 with a walk and driving in two runs. Crowley contributed a double in her lone official at-bat. On the mound, Farrell was outstanding in relief, covering the final 4.2 innings and surrendering just one earned run on two hits while striking out four to earn the victory. Emerson Fuller handled the opening 2.1 innings, allowing two earned runs.

What Comes Next

The Golden Eagles will return to the diamond Tuesday morning to face fourth-seeded Temple College, with first pitch scheduled for 11 a.m. Central Time. A win would push CSI deeper into the double-elimination bracket at the national tournament.
