Cold Front Brings Rain And 20 Degree Drop To Southern Idaho

Southern Idaho’s unseasonably warm autumn streak ends Saturday as a cold front moves into the Magic Valley, delivering rain and significantly lower temperatures.

The National Weather Service forecasts a sharp shift in conditions beginning October 10. After temperatures averaged in the upper seventies during the first two weeks of fall, residents can expect a drop of roughly 20 degrees on Saturday. Overnight lows are projected to fall into the 30s by Saturday night.

Rain is expected to start Saturday evening. The National Weather Service outlook indicates intermittent showers will continue through Tuesday, covering a 96-hour window. This precipitation follows a period where temperatures reached the upper 80s earlier in the week; the odds of seeing such heat again before June are extremely slim.

The incoming moisture provides relief for local resources. The rainfall benefits animals, lakes, reservoirs, lawns, forests, and air quality across the region. The cold front is expected to remain in the area for several days, marking a distinct departure from the mild weather that characterized early October in Idaho.
