Buhl, Idaho adopted its first comprehensive plan since 2017 in September, creating a 10-year framework for growth, housing and development.
The plan will guide future decisions by Buhl city leaders. It follows a two-year, 23-page community survey that examined growth, housing, land use and transportation.
Residents identified affordable housing, downtown economic development and preserving Buhl’s small-town character as priorities. Pamala Pehrson said the feedback called for more affordable housing choices, continued downtown development and growth that maintains the community’s character.
“People wanting to preserve Buhl’s small town feel but still accommodate growth,” Pehrson said.
Buhl is neighboring Twin Falls. Lee Thompson said the city’s proximity to Twin Falls can make it difficult for a small community to establish roots, while also giving local businesses an advantage because customers do not have to travel to Twin Falls.
The full comprehensive plan will be available on the city website.
