Idaho FFA Convention Draws Nearly 2,000 Students to Twin Falls for Annual Statewide Gathering

Nearly 2,000 Future Farmers of America students from across Idaho descended on Twin Falls this week for the organization’s annual state convention, bringing one of the largest youth agricultural gatherings in the state directly to the heart of Magic Valley.

The Idaho FFA State Convention, held in Twin Falls, drew student delegates, chapter advisors, and agricultural educators representing dozens of school chapters from across Idaho. The event stands as one of the premier celebrations of agricultural education in the state, showcasing the accomplishments of young Idahoans who are preparing for careers in farming, agribusiness, food science, natural resources, and related fields.

Twin Falls, long recognized as a hub of Idaho’s agricultural economy, served as a fitting backdrop for the convention. The region’s deep roots in dairy production, crop farming, and food processing — anchored by major employers such as Chobani and a network of family-owned farming operations throughout Twin Falls County — reflect exactly the kind of industry that FFA chapters statewide work to prepare students to enter.

What Happens at the Idaho FFA State Convention

The state convention serves multiple purposes for Idaho’s FFA community. Student members compete in a wide range of Career Development Events that test their knowledge and skills across agricultural disciplines, including agricultural mechanics, livestock evaluation, crop production, and agricultural communications. Top performers at the state level earn the opportunity to advance to national competition.

The convention also serves as the formal setting where the Idaho FFA State Officer team is elected. Student candidates campaign for leadership positions including State President, Vice Presidents, Secretary, Treasurer, Reporter, and Sentinel — roles that require them to represent Idaho FFA members throughout the following year at events across the state and nation.

Retiring state officers deliver their final addresses to the assembled delegates during the convention, a tradition that marks both the close of their service and the transition to incoming leadership. Award recipients are also recognized during the event, including those earning the prestigious Idaho FFA State Degree — the highest honor the state association can bestow upon a student member.

The College of Southern Idaho, located in Twin Falls, plays a role in supporting agricultural education throughout the region and is part of the broader educational ecosystem that makes Twin Falls County a natural home for events of this kind.

Agriculture Remains a Cornerstone of Idaho’s Economy and Education

FFA — formally known as the National FFA Organization — operates as an integral component of agricultural education programs in Idaho’s public schools. Chapters are embedded within school districts across the state, connecting classroom instruction with hands-on learning through Supervised Agricultural Experience projects and leadership development activities.

In Twin Falls County and across Magic Valley, agricultural education programs have long been a pipeline for the region’s dominant industries. With Idaho consistently ranking among the top agricultural states in the nation for dairy, potatoes, trout, and a variety of crops, developing the next generation of agricultural professionals carries significant economic weight.

Idaho lawmakers have continued to prioritize workforce and education discussions in the current legislative session. Separately, the state legislature has been active on a range of education and workforce-related measures, including a proposal in the Idaho House to change requirements for government contractor E-Verify compliance, which could affect agricultural employers who rely on contract labor across the state.

As Idaho’s state government navigates budget priorities under Governor Brad Little, agricultural education funding remains a point of emphasis for rural communities. The state recently made headlines for approving $22 million in Medicaid disability budget cuts, a decision that reflects broader fiscal pressures facing state programs.

For the students attending the Twin Falls convention, however, the focus this week was squarely on competition, leadership, and celebrating the future of Idaho agriculture.

What Comes Next

Following the conclusion of the Idaho FFA State Convention, newly elected state officers will begin their terms and prepare to represent Idaho at national FFA events later in 2026. Students who earned top placements in Career Development Events at the state level will advance toward national competition. Local FFA chapters throughout Twin Falls County and Magic Valley will return to their home communities to continue Supervised Agricultural Experience projects and prepare for the next academic year.
